In 1857 a very fine piece of pavement was found c.2ft underground in the Red Lion Yard whilst making a drain. The ornamental part was about 25ft square. Attempts to persuade the proprieter to allow it to be taken up failed and the drain was cut through it. Also Hull's site 181 - In February 1937 the E side of the Red Lion Yard was converted into a large lounge.
