Full Description

Roman tile scatterd over field east of Layer Breton Lodge. This area fieldwalked on 28.10.1982 by M.J.Winter and Mrs D.Becket. Large amountsof tegulae, imbricies and flue tile on field surface, also some course pottery and a large number of red brick tesserae. All of this is concentrated on the west side of the field some 15m in from the field boundary which here forms the limit of Layer Breton Lodge garden. This area has been systematically fieldwalked by Mrs D.Becket during the winter of 1982/3 to reveal substantial Romano-British buildings of probably a village complex. <2>
