Full Description

Trench dug on postulated line of main London Road through Balkerne Gate next to road junction at Royal Grammar School. No road found in area examined but a series of layers indicating occupation/intensive activity of first and early second century date. <3>
Limited excavation in same area as 1964 revealed a fired clay layer thought to be a collapsed wall from a low grade Roman building. Other features include rubbish pits and metalled paths.>4>
