Full Description

Various Roman finds were recovered from a pipe trench being laid along Maldon Road. Nothing was of signifiance apart from a human tibia found near the junction of Maldon Road with Beaconsfield Avenue. The bone presumably derived from an inhumation. It was found within a few metres of a small pit or ditch apparantly of Roman date. A layer of gravel opposite Salisbury Avenue about 0.3m thick and about 1.3m below ground level appeared to be too fine for Roman road metalling. <2>
