Full Description

Early Roman pottery was found at a depth of 8-10ft when sinking the `new well' at the waterworks at the foot of Balkerne Hill. Pottery included decorated and plain samian from the mid C1 onwards. The coarse wares correspons and run up to the C4 and to Medieval `gatches`. The Roman ware includes two stamps on amphorae. THree coins were found, one each of Trajan, Vespasian and Faustina. <1> - <5>
