Full Description

Iron Age pottery deposited (in Mus?) with the West Bergholt (church?) finds but marked "W.B.78 TL 955280". Five sherds of a `Belgic' pot dated to c.50BC-55AD. Three sherds join and show a possibility of burnishing towards the rim (now lost). The sherds were found whilst investigating the indurated conglomerate used in the church. They came from a trial trench which could, on reflection, have been entirely within a feature, eg, the ditch of a dyke? It is certain that, being found at a depth of 3.5 feet the pot was not within the ploughsoil. <1> <2> <3> <4>
