Full Description

Mound excavated in 1920 by the Morant Club. Although a trench was taken to a depth of 17 feet no burials were found, only a few fragments of Roman tiles and pottery includng Samian. Hawkes interpreted the site as an Iron Age barrow robbed probably in the Roman period. <1> Photos of the Mount in the SMR. <2> THe mount stands in parkland approximately a quarter of a mile south of the Roman road. Finds recovered include grey pottery, Roman tile, oyster shell, a few pieces of burnt bone, fragments of Roman pottery and a fragment from a buff mortarium. <3>
