Full Description

Suspected Roman road or courtyard or part of the foundation of old Peldon Hall. <1> Reported by Mr R Coan of Pete Tye Farm, Peldon, that during digging in the floor of the barn at Peldon Hall what was described as a Roman road was discovered. The direction of this possible road was not noted. The Roman road from Colchester via Abberton could well have split into two roads just south of the reservoir and one section when projected on a map appears to run through the Peldon Hall site. Also possibly of relevance is the suggestion of a Roman dock or quay on Games Farm - "if it was a road that was found was it part of a dock area complex and not a main route. <2> <3> Other refs. <4> <5>

Site Assessment = Still beneath the old barn So far as is known there is no imminent threat to the site. <1>
