Full Description

Site of wind mill.<1> Shown on Chapman and Andre map of 1777 and also on the later Tithe Map.<2>

Post Mill. Stood near Wakes Colne Green about 120 yards south of the T-junction and close to the present Mill House. There is little trace of the mound which it once stood on bu tht eenclosure is still clearly defined (enclosing The Mill House).
The earliest reference is in an insurance policy of 1765.
In 1821 the mill had two pairs of stones, a flour mill and jumper and a round house with stowage for 200 quarters of corn.
In May of 1856 the mill caught fire due to "friction of the machinery" and it quickly burnt down.<3>
