Full Description
The wood boundary lies on top of a broad hollow way running dead straight through the wood and in line with an evidently ancient road outside the wood to the E - Rackham interprets this as the Roman or more probably pre-Roman direct road from Colchester to Cambridge. The hollow way peters out 100yds E of the wood but after a gap of 300yds its alignment is taken up by a straight parish boundary coinciding with a lane and the edge of Wolfney Wood. Just beyond Pattock's Farm the alignment changes slightly and the lane and boundary go off in the direction of the Roman road junction at Marks Tey. <1> The site should be closely inspected, photographed and possibly surveyed for reference. If possible, vegetation growth should be minimised in the area <2>
