Full Description

During excavations at Balkerne Lane between 1973-6 (ECC332) a possible Roman timber-lined drain was discovered which pre-dated the later drainage system (see MCC630-MCC634 and MCC617) along the main Colchester to London Road (MCC475). Traces of the drain were located about 2m north of a strip-house (MCC589) which fronted onto the street. The drain was of uncertain date.<1>
