Full Description

A number of ditches were recorded which no longer formed part of the modern landscape. Some were sectioned and peg-tile retrieved. Others produced no finds. Their relationship with the Roman features suggests a post medieval date. Overall the ditches are not well dated, although most can be argued to be post-Roman. Many contained finds which have or indicate a post-medieval date, or were cleaqrly part of a recent landscape. Two small finds from the site hint at possible medieval activity, however the only substantial indication of post-Roman settlement comes from a group of pits located towards the north-east corner of the site. These pits contained late medieval or early post-medieval pottery and must be associated with a settlement of the period.<1>
