Full Description

The evaluation trenches revealed that significant archaeological deposits of medieval and later date survive on the site. Organic material such as wood, bone and leather were well preserved due to the damp, anaerobic soil conditions, which are unusual for Colchester. A medieval wood-lined drain and 'dark earth' associated with stake-holes and foundations. Rebuilding of the plots continued in the post-medieval and modern periods.<1>
