Full Description

Observations were made during the excavation of foundation trenches and a drainage trench, forming part of a new extension to an existing garage. There was little archaeological material observed during the watching brief the bulk of material being demolition associated with the Roman Mausoleum MCC8355. In addition to the demolition material, a greensand and mortar Roman wall foundation was found in foundation trench 2 (and also a modern soakaway). The report suggests the wall foundation may be part of a structure or boundary wall associated with the mausoleum.<1><2>
