Great Horkesley Brickworks was located at the west end of Brick Kiln Lane.

Dates: By 1830's to 1870's. <1>

Operators: Richard Alston (17 - 1855) by 1830's to 1855.
John Alstobn (1796-18 ) 1855 to 1870's.

Further Information:
Richard Alston also operated brickworks at Mile End, Colchester and at West Bergholt. When he died in 1855 he left his freehold brick kiln, land, cottage, hereditaments and premises in Great Horkesley to his nephew, John Alston. In fact Johnn Alston was already in occupation of this brick kiln when he inherited it. In 1873 John Alston owned 12a Or Op of land in Great Horkesely. Site Assessment:
The site of this former brickworks is now the grounds of Kiln House.
Following a field visit the site may warrant an impact assessment to determine history, location, event and form of works with further intrusive investigation if necessary.
