Full Description
Bergholt Road Brickworks were located on the south side of Bergholt Road, north of the railway and south west of Braiswick House.
Dates: 1870's to 1890's. <1>
Further Information:
In the 1870's this was a small brick field with one rectangular kiln. It later expanded in a westerly direction and became quite extensive but was disused by 1897. It appears latterly to have had a circular kiln on the Hoffmann principle with a central chimney. Although both kilns have disappeared, the remaining buildings were still in existence in the 1920's as well as the old clay pits on both the east and west sites.
Site Assessment:
There is no longer any remaining evidence of the former brickworks on either site.
Following a field visit the site may merit an impact assessment to determine the probable location of buried archaeological structures/kilns with follow-on intrusive works.
