Full Description

Lime kiln shown on 1st edition Ordnance Survey map on the north bank of the River Colne within the former harbour of The Hythe. This lime kiln nestled against warehouses located on Hawkins Road, many of which still survive. With the kiln located on the south bank of the river on Haven Road, it would have been associated with a large group of warehouses, wharfage and storage areas, producing lime for local use and re-export from imported chalk.<1>
