Full Description

In 1878 and 1886 Francis Price was the Collector. By 1884 S.N.Squire was Secretary but Isaac Blyth had replaced him by 1886
1890 Formation of the Wivenhoe Gas Company
In 1900 Francis C.Price was Secretary and A.Goodwin Collector. "These works are now let to Mr.C.G.Grimwood of Mabury, Suffolk".
1901, April. Formation of Wyvenhoe Gas Co.Ltd., with Henry Woodall as Chairman and A.W.Green as Secretary. The office was at Tranton, Sudbury, Suffolk. Sales of gas rose from 1m per annum in 1900 to 6.8m in 1914.
In 1924 Woodall was still Chairman and Green was still Secretary. The Manager in 1914 and 1924 was F.Edwards.
The 1924 make was 7.1m from 582 tons of coal.
In 1937 A.W.Green of Sudbury was still Secretary and F.Edwards was still Manager. The make that year was 5.6m from 460 tons of coal.
In 1948 the make was 10m. F.Edwards was still Manager but the Secretary was N.Green of Sudbury.
Eastern Gas Board reported in July 1950 that it had closed the first two of the many small gasworks inherited the previous year, these being Woburn and Wivenhoe. The new Wivenhoe supply came from Colchester and was soon extended to Brightlingsea. By 1969 the holders had been removed. <1>.
