Full Description

A peaty deposit containing the faunal remains of diverse species dating to the pre-Hoxnian period c.300,000 BP. Species included shrew, various amphibians, monkey, rhino, hippo. No human artefacts have yet been found in association with this material.

Site assessment
Currently protected by the Geological SSSI, which limits by license those that may dig here. Erosion is a severe problem along this stretch of coast, which is currently being tackled by a polder scheme with varying success.<1>
