Full Description

The 1997 evaluation demonstrates that there are stratified Roman remains on the South edge of the site very close to modern ground level. In the central part of the site there is evidence for a burnt Boudiccan structure. On the northern edge, in the vicinity of the temple- like building previously recorded (se PRN 12369) another stone structure was located. <1>.
A Single inhumation burial (probably later Roman) found on the eastern edge of the site ties in with previous discoveries of burials on the Hospital site (See PRN 12366) - known collectively as the "Union Cemetary".
Roman material is so close to the surface on the South edge of the site that any development work is bound to have a major impact on them. <1>.
