Full Description

During renovation and conversion of a listed barn, dating to the 17th to 18th centuries, a large quantity of pottery, apparently within a burnt brickearth deposit (Observed, but not archaeologically recorded) was discovered beneath the floor of the barn. The remains of a well were also found.

Some of the pottery was studied by Helen Walker. She summarised that it was Colchester Ware and probably 15th to 16th centuries in date. Some sherds may be kiln wasters, but is uncertain whether this was a kiln or some other form of pottery production site.

Further planning applications should have appropriate recommendations made.
