Full Description

The remains of a lime kiln were observed near the western end of the southern section cut at St Giles's graveyard to make room for a car park in 1973. It was sealed by the dumped material and cut into the original ground surface. It took the form of a circular pit approximately 4.0m in diameter with scorched edges. Although unexcavated, it was "clearly directly comparable to the early medieval lime kilns found at Lion Walk and the Gilberd School".<1>
