Full Description

The remains of a shallow Roman foundation were recovered during the excavation at the Gilberd School Site in 1984-5. The foundation was situated to the south of MCC358 and was 0.4m deep, consisting mainly of gravel, with some septaria, tile and mortar rubble. It was thought possible that this feature together with MCC358 may have formed a single-celled building in the corner of Insula 17a. However, the surrounding levels had been much eroded and no trace of an internal surface survived.<1>
