Full Description
C16 timber framed building.
A structural survey was undertaken by Richard Shackle in 2005. 80 Hythe Hill is the former Queen's Head public house. Inside the eastern half of the building is a medieval timber-framed building a two bay cross wing at the front and a fragmentary medieval building at the rear. The cross wing was originally of two parts. The plan of the upper floor shows an oriel window facing the street and a window in the flank of the cross wing looking up Hythe Hill. The latter has three moulded window bars but these probably replace plain diamond mullion windows. There is a clear shutter rebate for the oriel window. On the inner face of the top plate. The bridging joist suggests a 16th century date. The medieval fragment at the rear was probably brought from elsewhere to replace the rear part of the front cross wing. It has two diamond mullion windows, suggesting it is 16th century or earlier. It also has a 17th century window with moulded window bars.<1>
