Full Description

16th century house with large living room and smaller service room to the east. CAT Building 182. Both rooms had trampled clay floors, and the larger room, had a central hearth built of tile fragments in burnt clay. The building appears to follow the ground plan of a typical medieval long house. Remains of two ovens lie to the south of the house, which date broadly to the 13th -16th century. One of these appeared to have an associated wall. A deposit of black-smithing debris was present at the western end of the house, suggesting the buildings function was not purely domestic.<1>
