Full Description

The discovery of unrobbed Roman foundations under Culver Street is significant in this case as this suggests the street pre-dates the late 11th or 12th centuries, as this was time when the robbing of building materials from burial Roman remains became widespread. This fits with previous findings of medieval streets in Colchester with unrobbed Roman foundations remaining beneath them.<1>
