Full Description

CAT Building 211 was located in Insula 1a, and appeared to comprise all the structural features that were excavated to the west of the metalled street (MON1075). These remains constitute a building measuring at least 30m x 21m, incorporating at least eight rooms, and three long service corridors. Areas of tessellated floor were uncovered in four of the rooms and all three corridors, while at least two possible mosaic floors were identified. A large quantity of painted wall plaster, including exotic marble imitation, was uncovered and, like MON1072, it seems likely that this was a high status town house, lavishly decorated.

Further walls were recorded in the pipe trenches as part of the excavation (EVT4217), which may prove to be part of the same building, making it around 40m x 60m, occupying the majority of the southern half of Insula 1a. <1>
