Full Description

One of two probable Roman buildings identified at the site north of Gosbecks (the other is MCC2905), the remains of which were quite poorly preserved. The remains for this structure comprise a rectilinear setting of stake holes or small post-holes. The building appears to be a rectangular structure approximately 2.5m-3m wide x 5m long, aligned E to W. Dating this structure is tricky as no floor-levels survive and no material evidence was recovered from the feature. The rectangular shape and scarcity of post-Roman features suggests a probable Late Iron Age/Roman or possibly later date. It lies beyond the large boundary ditch (MCC2893) and may pre-date this feature, probably being associated with the Late Iron Age-early Roman activity represented by the ovens (MCC2895, MC2896 and MCC2897), two of which were themselves cut by the boundary ditch.<1>
