Full Description

Three oven structures (CF78, CF79 and CF108) were excavated on Site C, two of which were cut (CF78 and CF79) by the large boundary ditch (MCC2893). The three ovens are likely to be contemporary to one another and are probably of Roman date. All three ovens are of a different type, or construction, although both CF79 and CF108 had a small pit-like bowl or furnace chamber at one end. There were few finds from these features, apart from carbonised material which produced some fragments of hazelnut shells and grasses which may be residue from fuel.<1>
