Full Description

Fig 96 BUC C1323 F57. A small shallow dish of a coarse sandy fabric which appears to have a slightly oxidised core. The inner surface of the dish has a thick lead-rich vitreous coating which is coloured red by traces of copper. The dish may have been used as a 'heating tray' for refining precious metals but its form is atypical. Heating trays are most commonly found in the late Saxon period.<1>
