RCHME survey of house and shop at Scheregate. 17th century, located opposite RCHME No 149. The house 'has on the west front a coved eaves-cornice of plaster and an oval panel with the date 1692' <1>

DOE survey of No's 1 & 2 Scheregate. Grade II. C17 timber-framed and plastered building. Two storeys, attics and cellars. The roofs are tiled and there is a coved plaster eaves cornice on the west front. Two modern ground floor shops. Oval date panel on the front 1692. Possible invisible remains of Roman Town Wall incorporated in the foundations of No2. <2>

Wire's diary records ' Received information that an arch had been discovered in the Town Wall a few yards east of Sheregate went and examined it when I found it formed of two Roman tiles set on the ends at each side and a double row of the same tiles formed the arch which is 3ft thick from the inner to the outer crown and two feet six inches wide inside and four foot six inches high to the inner crown how far it lead under the wall could not be ascertained an oven is now made in it' <3> Hull records that a pencil drawing is to be found in Wire's notebooks, the arc cannot now be seen.<4>
