Full Description
A 17th century house, the northern part of which (the Bays) has been demolished since the 1922 survey.
RCHME survey of The Bays and two adjoining houses at the west corner of Culver Street. The buildings have walls of brick, now covered with rough cast. A timber-framed wing at the back may be of early 17th century date but the whole of the front block appears to have been rebuilt about the middle of the same century. There is a plain band-course between the storeys and above this the E and W walls are divided into bays by shallow pilasters; those on the W side have Ionic capitals but on the E these have been removed. The North end has a series of sunk panels and pilaster strips. Inside the building the middle tenement has some late 16th century panelling reused'.<1>
DOE survey of No's 2 & 3 Trinity Street. C17 building with considerable alterations in the C18 and later. The north half of the front (The Bays) has been demolished. Two storeys and attics, timber-framed and plastered, the roofs tiled. Parapet front with rough cast plaster, the upper storey.<2>
During 1977 No's 2 and 3 trinity Street were extensively renovated during conversion for use as a public house (The Cups). During excavation of the foundations of No.1 Trinity Street in the following year (ECC372), the standing buildings and exposed foundations were surveyed. This survey revealed five main phases of construction or major alterations between the late 16th and second quarter of the 19th centuries.<3>
