Full Description

Roman wall, St Mary's hospital. Rex Hull plots a small Roman wall under the Union Workhouse on his 1958 'Outside town walls' map. This map was based on a manuscript plan by P.G. Laver, now mislaid. The wall may be that recorded by William Wire 5.5.1848, described as a westward running foundation. However, Hull describes it as 'a corner of a Roman building' and this may therefore refer to a separate observation.<1>
