Full Description

On 19th March 1855 Wire wrote in his diary, 'Mr Thomas Fenton informs me that some years ago two potter's kilns of the Romans were discovered in the ground where Dr Maclean resides immediately opposite the hospital'. The house meant is that on the west corner of Hospital Lane, now (1961) occupied by Dr R. Sauvan Smith, and its garden formerly extended 55yards westwards along Lexden Road.<1>
