Full Description

Civil War Bastion, part of 1648 Parliamentarian siege works.<1><2>

Excavations in 1955, directed by A.F. Hall, on the supposed site of a Civil War siege fort revealed gravel metalling at TL 98702508 and the ditches of a possible Roman road running towards the Balkerne Gate, but were generally inconclusive.<3>
