Full Description

A substantial east-west Roman wall with two returns were observed at 'The Cater's Site' on Culver Street. The wall was robbed wither completely or down to the lowest courses of bonding tiles. The wall foundations were seven feet deep and were made of lumps of septaria set in hard, white mortar, except for the north-south wall which was of flint. The bonding tiles were set in pink mortar, the lowest courses being 8ft below the modern street level.<1>
