Full Description

In 1955, a sewer trench was cut southwards from Lexden Road across the E. half of the 'Roman camp' at Gurney Benham House, conjectured by Rex Hull in 'Roman Colchester'. There was no ditch on either the N or S side of the 'camp'. Instead, a smaller ditch, possibly the eastern of a pair recorded previously, was found running E-W in the SE corner of field 1225 (see MCC2171).<1>
