Full Description

Roman Road was revealed when building the N.E. wing of the Hospital. A section was drawn by Mr F. Godfrey, clerk of works, running from Hospital Road under the Essex County Hospital. The surface was 3ft below the surface of Hospital Road, the road was 18ft wide, with a wide ditch, 3ft wide on each side.<1>
