Full Description

According to the Essex SMR an excavation was undertaken here c.1970 and written up in the Walton-on-the-Naze Records Office annual report 1971 No 3. The office is now closed and its material distributed elsewhere including Colchester Records Office. However, the CRO does not have copies of the annual reports. The excavation may have been undertaken by Mrs J. Blowers, a local amateur archaeologist. Apparently the excavation showed evidence of terracing in Roman times, and a series of stratified deposits containing 2nd & 3rd century material.<1>
