Full Description

A massive north-south Roman foundation was discovered at the southern end of Museum Street running beneath 107 High Street. This was at least 2.75m wide and was traced for 2m. The foundation was constructed of tile fragments set in a pinkish mortar, with whole tiles forming the faces. There was a pronounced eastern face surviving 0.6m high the upper course being only 30cm below the modern ground level. The eastern face appeared to have been weathered in antiquity.<1>
