Full Description

During excavations at 60 North Hill in 1945, a fragment of a Roman wall was discovered. The wall was built of septaria and mortar and appeared to run north-south. The wall was approximately 2ft. thick and had been built on a heavily burnt layer. This burnt layer partly consisted of broken blocks of clay 'as if from a building built of them'.<1><2>
