Full Description

A loaded Roman pottery kiln was discovered on the left hand side of the road from Colchester to Lexden during the preparation of the foundations or the Colchester General Hospital. The kiln was built of sun-dried bricks. Within it were 30 vessels, 'standing on circular vents above the hollow chambers through which the heat was conveyed to them'.<1>
