Full Description

A watching brief was held during groundwork at 26 Trinity Street including a trench in the south-east corner of the backyard. The trench was excavated to a depth of 1.7m and revealed the gravel metalling of a Roman road. Two distinct layers were revealed sealed by a 1m thick layer of black soil. This was cut by post-Roman pits. The top of an arched cellar was also removed and the ground reduced by 0.3-0.5m.<1>
