Full Description

During excavations at Lewis's Gardens in 1955 (ECC667) a number of early Roman pits and hollows were discovered. These features were filled with ashy soil, cooking refuse and pottery belonging to the 1st century AD. There was no evidence of a structure belonging to this period but the domestic refuse may have derived from an early building standing further to the east.<1>
