Full Description

A watching brief was undertaken at the Essex County Hospital, Lexden Road, during the construction of an extension on the north side of the existing medical centre. Seven column pockets were dug. These contained no significant features apart from a Roman pit. The pit seems to have been over 4 m wide and at least 1 m deep. A Roman deposit approx 80 mm thick overlay the pit.<1>
