Full Description

The remains of one or more Roman buildings were found during excavations on the site of St Nicholas's Church in 1955/6 (ECC655). The remains took the form of burnt clay blocks, carbonised timbers and broken plaster from channelled and fluted columns. This destruction layer overlay the adjacent street to the west (MCC1570).<1>
