Full Description

A north-south wall Roman wall trench, 2ft. 3in. wide and situated 6ft. 9in. from the larger wall trench top the east (MCC1566). The wall was encountered during excavations on the site of St Nicholas's Church in 1955/6. The excavators suggested the wall could have been the 'stylobate for a portico. It encroached upon the earlier street (MCC1570) and may have been the wall for a footway.<1>
