A letter in the SMR records that pottery was found when the Castle Park greenhouses were built c1956. The letter records 'what made the find so particularly interesting was that the workmen cleared the whole of a rubbish pit which had belonged to some nearby house, finding a variety of different kinds of pottery, but all of practically the same date, so that it gave a picture of the kind of thing being used in an ordinary home within a few years of 100AD' <1>
