Full Description
During excavation of a pipe trench in Castle Park in 1983 (ECC375), a Roman wall foundation built of septaria and mortar was observed surviving in situ. Two other foundations were recorded immediately to the south (MCC1298 and MCC1299) as were several robber trenches.<1>
The wall may have been previously exposed in 1928/9 when Rex Hull undertook minor excavations against the fence on the west side of Hollytrees meadow (see ECC797). This work may also account for one or more of the robber trenches within the immediate vicinity.<2>
