Full Description

Originally 58-59 East Street it appears that the east end (No 58) has been demolished since the Royal Commission Survey published in 1922 (which records the east end as in poor condition). No 59 (Previously the Welcome Sailor Public House) is Mid 16th century in origin with late 17th century addition at the west end. The house is two storeys, timber framed and plastered, the roofs tiled. It has a 5 window range of double hung sashes with glazing bars. The upper storey projects on the front on 3 curved brackets and has an original moulded fascia.<1> A handwritten note on the Museum copy of the Greenback records 17th century pargetting at the rear 'but rapidly deteriorating'.<2>
